Simulated Survey Tools for Analysis and Reporting (SSTAR)

Once a simulated survey is planned, designed and run, we would like to know how well that particular survey met the science goals of the project. This turns out to be a very complex and open-ended question.

Software has been created which executes a series of queries on the survey database and returns various metrics designed to characterize a particular survey. The output is a PDF document which includes automatically generated Aitoff maps and tables, and it was originally called a Simulated Survey Technical Analysis Report or SSTAR. The current version (v3.2.2) is by no means comprehensive because of the incredible range of science possible.

The Science Collaborations have been invited to contribute figures of merit for their science and these will undergo a review process before they are added to the automated analysis process. Some members have already contributed code to perform their specific analyses. Because of the evolving and extensible nature of this collection of software tools, it has been renamed to the Simulated Survey Tools for Analysis and Reporting (SSTAR).

The SSTAR for the current reference survey, opsim1.29, is presented here.
